France in Pole Position for the Kazan Olympic Tournament
This weekend at the CNR Marcoussis was held the first stage of the European Tour 7 Feminine, organized by Rugby Europe.
This stage regrouping the 12 best European nations of Rugby 7s also aimed at the designation of the countries for the Olympic qualifier to be played on July 13 and 14 in Kazan (Russia)
Spread into 3 pools of 4, the three seeds of the 2018 European Ranking held their rank ending the first day with a clean round in their respective pool.
In the quarterfinals, Russian and French women made a clean-sheet against the Scots and Polish women (third best at the end of the group phase). For their part, Ireland dominated its English neighbor (24-19) to join the final square, as well as Spain who easily had the "Black Devils" Belgium.
The Leonas were then facing the European Champions of Russia, who left them no chance (26-0) to reach a new final.
The other semi-final was much closer between France and Ireland. In an encounter where the defenses counter the respective attacks, France managed to reverse an unfavorable situation by marking the saving try between the posts (14-12).
In a remake of previous editions, French and Russians competed for a new European final. The challenge of Kazan's table tensed the teams who gauged the whole first half before Anne-Cécile Ciofani managed to score the only try of the first period (5-0). Faster than their opponents, les Bleues took control of the match by crossing the line a second time with Carla Neisen (9 ° minute - 10-0). Faced with a strong defense, the players of David Courteix continued to dismiss the game to convert a new try by Fanny Horta (13 ° minute - 15-0). The Russians saved the honor thanks to Daria NORITSINA, but too late to reverse the situation.
France wins the Grand Prix 7s of Marcoussis and gets a favorable place for the Kazan tournament.
